Discord Introduces Nitro Subscription

Discord Nitro

Discord, a popular text and voice chat software, has been free since launch with no advertisements, server fees, user cap fees, etc. Knowing that a popular tool for streamers, gamers, and many communities will have to implement a way to earn revenue, Discord has finally unveiled a revenue source through Nitro subscriptions.

Discord’s Nitro subscription is $4.99 a month (the same cost as a Twitch sub interestingly) and gives you a couple of fun perks in exchange. With Discord Nitro, you can upload an animated GIF as your avatar, use custom emoji across all servers and direct messages, upload larger files (50mb from 8mb), and rep your Discord support in your profile with a special badge. As you can see, the benefits don’t heavily impede on the free experience but moreso is a way for users to show support towards the continued development of this software. Have we mentioned Discord is an awesome tool for streamers?

To purchase Discord Nitro, head to your settings by clicking the cogwheel in the lower left corner of your Discord application. You’ll notice a new Nitro tab!
