- Term used for anyone in the full spectrum of a network that provides internet to somebody else
- As a consumer, we generally think of ISP as the last stop (the company that sets the internet up in your house)
- Tier 1 – backbone of the internet
- Tier 2 – CDN, middle providers
- Tier 3 – last stop
- North America has terrible ISP service compared to other developed countries
- Large land mass
- Population densities (cities have great internet, rural areas are worse)
- U.S was one of the first countries to get internet lines laid out
- Now, these lines are old and it’s expensive to remove and replace
- Having roommates and sharing internet can be a big problem for streamers
- If someone is streaming a show or downloading something it can affect your livestream
- The future of ISPs
- Urban areas – set up wifi hubs that boost your cellphone connection and a fast data connection with peering
- Satellite technology
