  • What is an ISP?
    • Term used for anyone in the full spectrum of a network that provides internet to somebody else
    • As a consumer, we generally think of ISP as the last stop (the company that sets the internet up in your house)
    • Tier 1 – backbone of the internet
    • Tier 2 – CDN, middle providers
    • Tier 3 – last stop
  • North America has terrible ISP service compared to other developed countries
    • Large land mass
    • Population densities (cities have great internet, rural areas are worse)
  • U.S was one of the first countries to get internet lines laid out
    • Now, these lines are old and it’s expensive to remove and replace
  • Having roommates and sharing internet can be a big problem for streamers
    • If someone is streaming a show or downloading something it can affect your livestream
  • The future of ISPs
    • Urban areas – set up wifi hubs that boost your cellphone connection and a fast data connection with peering
